Why visuals matter
Retention multiplies when learners see + hear + do. A lesson with a single relevant image is recalled twice as well as one delivered by voice alone. AI now removes the design bottleneck.
Gamma — lesson plan → slides in 60 seconds
- Open gamma.app (free tier exists).
- Paste your lesson plan (the one you generated in Unit 3).
- Click Generate. Choose a theme.
- 60 seconds later, you have an 8–12 slide deck with titles, bullets, and matching imagery.
- Edit any slide inline — Gamma's editor is as easy as Google Slides.
- Export as PPTX, PDF, or present directly from the browser.
💡 Pro tip
Before pasting, add this line at the top of your text: "Create slides for a JSS1 classroom in Nigeria. Use simple English, large bullet points, and African imagery where possible."
Canva Magic Design — posters and worksheets
Canva's AI features (free with a Canva account) cover most teacher visuals:
- Magic Design: type a description, get 4 design options. e.g. "Classroom poster about water cycle for primary school, colourful, African children, simple English."
- Magic Write: AI writing inside any text box — useful for shortening or rewriting captions.
- Magic Switch: turn a poster into a worksheet, or a worksheet into a social post.
You get a printable PDF or PNG. No Photoshop required.
Image generation — DALL·E, Gemini, Designer
For custom images, try:
- ChatGPT (DALL·E built in for Plus users)
- Gemini (free image generation)
- Microsoft Designer / Copilot (free with a Microsoft account)
Good for: simple diagrams, scenes, characters, story illustrations, posters, decorations.
Weak at: scientifically accurate diagrams (heart, atom, plant cell), accurate maps, and any image with lots of text inside it. Always verify.
Image ethics for classrooms
- Never generate images of real students.
- Disclose to students when an image is AI-generated, especially in History or Science.
- Don't generate images of real, identifiable people without permission.
- Verify scientific and historical accuracy before using a generated image as fact.
- Where possible, prefer images that reflect your learners' world — African children, local landscapes, familiar objects.
